About Sarah Kuipers #01

Sarah Kuipers MSc

Sarah has over 20 years experience of working as a healthcare ptofessional. Her experience of burnout prompted her to undertake a Masters Research Degree at Thames Valley University to investigate stress and the effects of the close therapeutic relationship on healthcare professionals.

The results of her research and the prevalence of stress, compassion fatigue and burnout in healthcare professionals led Sarah to develop this series of workshops. She is committed to helping practitioners optimise their self care and become more resilient so they can continue to provide the best patient care. Sarah recognises that true care of the practitioner has to work on all levels: mentally, emotionally and physically.

Research indicates the link between empathy and 'compassion fatigue,’ ‘secondary trauma’ and ‘emotional contagion’. Since the most empathic practitioners are more likely to experience compassion stress, Sarah also understands the need for many healthcare professionals to learn how to empathise in a safer way.
