Workshops #01

Stress Management

Effective coping strategies will help you become more resilient to the inevitable stresses of your work. This workshop will enable you to:

  • Identify your personal warning signs of stress
  • Learn a variety of effective strategies to feel more calm, relaxed and in control
  • Discover how to maintain a more positive attitude
  • Learn simple strategies to release emotions such as anger, anxiety, hurt, etc.
  • Create a more effective support network
  • Identify ways to create a more peaceful work or home environment

  • Reduce the risks of compassion fatigue and burnout

Research indicates that the most empathic practitioners have a higher risk of compassion fatigue and burnout. In this training we explore the role of empathy as well as the neuro-science of mood contagion.

The strategies are based on work by the psychotherapist Babette Rothschild, author of ‘Help for the Helper.’ This workshop is particularly valuable for doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals who are easily drained or affected by the distress of their patients. These new skills will enable you to continue to provide optimum patient care while also taking care of yourself.

    This workshop will help you:

  • Identify warning signs of compassion fatigue and burnout
  • Become more resilient to the emotionally demanding aspects of work
  • Develop a variety of strategies to empathise in a safer way
  • Feel less depleted at the end of the day
  • Avoid 'picking up' disturbing emotions / moods of patients
  • Minimise the risks of vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue or burnout

  • Assertiveness and Building Confidence

Lack of confidence and the inability to be assertive can prevent you from working effectively as well as increasing susceptibility to stress or burnout.

This workshop will enable doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to:

  • Understand the difference between assertive and aggressive behaviour
  • Identify when assertiveness would be beneficial
  • Communicate more clearly and effectively
  • Overcome challenges with more confidence
  • Improve self esteem
  • Feel more in control
  • Think more positively

  • Energise yourself, energise your practice

Optimising self care at home and at work will help you to become more resilient and also work more effectively. This workshop will enable you to:

  • Discover effective ways to re-energise youirself quickly and easily
  • Explore how to stay more energised even while working with challenging patients
  • Experience different ways to connect to more positive feelings
  • Learn how to "disconnect" from work and close the door at the end of the day
  • Optimise use of leisure time to ensure replenishment and renewal

Key features of all these one day workshops:

  • Simple, practical tools that are easy to integrate into a busy schedule
  • Wide variety of approaches to suit the needs of different people
  • Experiential exercises and group discussions for optimum participation
  • In house trainings to minimise time away from work
  • Can be scheduled into half days

In order to optimise learning and the integration of strategies into work situations the optimum group size is 6 - 12 people, with a maximum of 16.
